Our world is full of the strangest things, especially when we hear about UFO sightings in Transylvania, spooky luxury cruise ships, and spirits going in and around the nook and crannies of the castles. Are you spooked out already? Well, don’t be. We are discussing some of the best-haunted sites in the world that can make several chills run down the spine.
But even if you aren’t big on paranormal activities, you can certainly take a sneak peek at these places that boast of beautiful architectures, scary locations, or intriguing histories. Here are a couple of places for all those horror aficionados who are looking to get scared!
Hoia-Baciu Forest
Is this the scariest place ever? Well, we will leave you to decide! A photograph of what seemed like a ‘UFO’ was spotted around the forest in 1968. Many believed that it is a place where visitors do the disappearing act. All those who just passed through the forest felt several strange symptoms such as anxiousness, a sudden bout of rashes, and nausea. Yeah, we know it sounds terribly like the Bermuda Triangle, Hoia-Baciu is indeed Transylvania’s Bermuda Triangle! The atmosphere lends its contribution, making it look eerily spooky!
Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel
This hotel was built around 1888 to entice tourists and sell tickets. This chateau-style hotel is nestled by the towering Rocky Mountains in Banff National Park. But the opulent architecture is just a façade. It hardly tells you of the gory tales that ominous walls hide! The Calgary Herald spoke about the instance when a bride fell down the stairs at her wedding. We know all ghost stories start with a tragic story, but this hotel offers a bellman who used to work around the hotel during the seventies, and his spirit has come back not to induce jump scares but to help people with their luggage and do the disappearing act.
Eastern State Penitentiary
The construction of the castle-like Eastern State Penitentiary architecture dates back to 1829. The prisoners had to stay in solitary confinement here, conducting all their daily tasks alone. And when an inmate leaves the cell, they cover their heads so that nobody could see them! It was in 1913 that they stopped solitary confinement.
However, the severity of the punishment continued to be severe until they shut down the prison in 1970. The site is now open to visitors, especially during the Halloween celebrations. The spooky atmosphere, complete with raucous laughter, shadowy figures, and sound of footsteps, makes it one of the top scary places in the world!
Bhangarh Fort
It has been the topic of much conjecture, located somewhere around 100 miles southwest of Delhi. The Bhangarh Fort ruins make for a grand architectural building set against the landscape of Rajasthan. This verdant oasis remains deserted because of an aggrieved magician whose advances were snubbed by a local princess. The place is hauntingly beautiful, and you could even consider it a spiritual place, had it not come with the baggage of terrifying history and a spooky present.
Château de Brissac
It is one of the tallest castles in France. The seven-story Château de Brissac is the abode of the Charlotte of France or “The Green Lady,” The chateau’s website divulges the backstory of Charlotte. She was the illegitimate daughter of King Charles VII and was killed by her husband when he discovered that his wife was having an illicit relationship with another person. She is so named owing to the dress color that she was wearing when she died. Her tormented spirit roams around the lonely and silent chapel tower that is inundated by her cries in the wee hours of the morning.
Stanley Hotel, Estes Park
People have been flocking to the Stanley Hotel for ages chiefly to gawk at the opulent Georgian architecture and the whiskey bar. The hotel became the discussion topic when it became the backdrop of Stephen King’s storyline, The Shining‘s not-so-famous hotel, Overlook Hotel. That it incites the imagination of a popular author is something else, there have been other strange happenings in and around that hotel, read many a ghost sighting and mysterious and haunting piano music ringing through the empty corridors. The Stanley Hotel has tapped into its ghostly reputation and offering nightly tours that include ghosts and psychic consultations.
