On the first death anniversary of Anderson Cooper‘s mother, the popular host penned a heartfelt tribute and posted it on his Instagram.

With a picture of his gorgeous mother, posing in front of an easel, the journalist wrote about how her spirit is alive in his heart and in all those who loved her. Praising her personality, Anderson fondly remembered his mother’s grit, passion, indomitable spirit, and vulnerability.
In her lifetime, Gloria Vanderbilt, Cooper’s mother, experienced horrific tragedies and insurmountable love, but never lost her childlike optimism and the ability to open up to the world around her.
The news anchor further recalled how people would often close their hearts, but she bravely chose to remain vulnerable.

Gloria died after succumbing to stomach cancer at the age of 95. An artist and elite socialite, she wanted to feel, see, and hear everything despite her traumatic experiences.
On June 17, 2019, the day Gloria passed away, Cooper narrated a seven-minute eulogy which was broadcasted by CNN. In his sincere words, he recalled her not only as his mother but also as an incredible human being who led an extraordinary life. Leaving behind her legacy, she went on her terms and was surrounded by family and friends in her last days.
Although the fashion designer had hoped for a little more time to do the things that brought her joy, she was ready when the time came.
A Bittersweet Flashback
After her demise, Anderson welcomed his son – Wyatt Morgan Cooper, into this world. Sadly, she never got to meet the little bundle of joy, but she knew about the happy development.

The political commentator stopped by the sets of Live with Ryan and Kelly to do an interview, in which he gave details on how he told his mother. Recalling her reaction as simply being thrilled, Cooper had the privilege to tell her before she died.
At that time, he was toying with the idea as Wyatt did not even exist at that time, but he felt the decision was right in his heart.
In 2016, Gloria said during an interview that she hoped to meet her grandchildren while she is alive. Further saying that her son brushed off the remark, and it was brought up almost constantly. She also thanked the interviewer for reminding her.
Gloria was a force to be reckoned. In the 1970s, she created an empire by launching a clothing line, perfumes, and household goods bearing her iconic name. A self-made woman like her lived a full life on her terms until her last days. We sincerely hope that her soul is now resting in peace.
