The Corne family is no stranger to academic success. Amelia Corne graduated from a Michigan high school as the valedictorian in 2020, making her the third member of her family to do so in the past seven years. Her sister, Bethany, started the tradition in 2014, followed by her brother Lane in 2016. It’s now Amelia’s turn to write a speech for her graduation ceremony.
Bethany, Lane, Amelia Corne are Valedictorians
They all attended the Airport High School in Carleton. Amelia claims to be a perfectionist who worked hard to earn all A’s.
Being crowned valedictorian was just a by-product. She loved singing in the choir, while her siblings were into sports. Her choir teacher, Chelsea Whiteoak, is one of her biggest role models. She inspired Amelia to work hard, take responsibility for her actions, and be a good human being.
The genius student also participated in other extracurricular clubs like the youth government, choir council, and national honor society. She finished 11 advanced placement courses and will graduate with 30 college credits.
Bethany, 24, and Lane, 22, love competition and credit their grades to healthy sibling rivalry. 7-year-old Sam is also part of this bright family and has big shoes to fill.
According to their principal Christopher Lukosavich, all three Corne siblings are not just exemplary students, but also well-rounded. He added that all of them would willingly go out of their way to help others. He also gave their parents, Chris and Danielle, credit for raising them well and being so involved in their lives.

Amelia said that she took advice from her siblings before writing her graduation speech. Originally, her choir was supposed to sing ‘Always Keep This Close’ at the ceremony, but due to the Coronavirus pandemic, that is on hold.
The song tells a story about how every moment in your life shapes you, and if you cherish those precious memories, you will succeed in everything you do. The high school is hoping to have an in-person graduation ceremony sometime in the late summer.
Besides Amelia, Lane also graduated from the University of Kentucky this year with a Bachelor’s in Materials Engineering. He will soon start working with General Motors. Both Chris and their oldest sibling, Bethany, also have jobs in the automotive industry.

Amelia, on the other hand, plans on attending Saginaw Valley State University in the fall. Her ultimate goal is to be a high school math teacher.
The main reason the Corne siblings were able to accomplish these feats was that they wanted to achieve them. Where there’s a will, there’s always a way. That’s one life lesson we should all learn from them.
